The clinic is on the ground floor and the teaching rooms are above it. Students walk downstairs to their consultations and back up to their next class.
It is open to anyone. Patients pay a reduced fee, book like any other practice, and are told that a student will treat them under supervision.
That arrangement is the reason the course is five years and not three.

Four stages, three years
Observation to autonomy
- Observation
- Year three, first term. You sit in on consultations, take notes, and write up the case afterwards. You do not touch the patient.
- Assisted
- Year three, second term. You take the history and perform the examination. Your supervisor confirms the findings before any treatment.
- Supervised
- Year four. You run the consultation end to end with a supervisor in the room. Twenty signed consultations are required to progress.
- Autonomous
- Year five. You consult alone, with a supervisor available next door and a debrief after every session.
How the clinic runs
- Opening
- Four days a week, Tuesday to Friday, 9h to 19h. Closed in August.
- Patients
- Members of the public, referred or self-presenting. Reduced fee, which is what funds the clinic.
- Supervision
- One practising osteopath to four students, at every stage.
- Records
- Every consultation is written up and countersigned. Your notes are part of your assessment.
- Placement
- Six weeks in year five, in an outside practice or with a partner school abroad.
